Grandma Beach Gives One Last Time

Leon and Rozanna Snow enjoy Grandma's motorized wheelchair
In past weeks we reported the passing of Paulene Beach, matriarch of the extended Beach family in Utah. In clearing out all Gandma's things there was one item in particular that had some real monetary value. It was one of those high-end motorized wheelchairs. When we looked online. It seemed to be worth several thousand dollars. We put it online for sale and waited to see what would happen.

What actually happened? In a word, nothing. Despite the need and the value it was clear the two were not matching up. It became obvious that those who could afford to buy one likely already had, and were not in the market for another. Those who needed but could not afford it, continued to make do with whatever arrangement they already had. Basically, we had nobody interested in buying it.

So Lisa Mann, daughter to Paulene, asked around. The last few years of her life, Paulene lived in a neighborhood where many other older folks lived. After asking around, Lisa was able to get a referral of a Vietnam veteran in the neighborhood that could really use the chair, but had no way to pay for it. We decided to donate the chair to him. Paulene would have liked that. As it turns out, the fellow attends church with Crystal Dunn, another daughter to Paulene, and is good friends with her husband Jerry.

Nathan Beach and Vicky Somerville made it official on March 2, 2019. They were sealed in the Ogden, Utah temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints surrounded by friends and family. The ceremony was followed up with congratulations and the usual barrage of picture taking outside the temple. Later a reception was held in their honor at a local Ogden chapel.

The couple celebrated their honeymoon by driving to Portland, Oregon to enjoy the sites of America's northwest coast. They begin their new life together in Ogden as Nathan works to complete his degree in Computer Science at Weber State University.

We wish them well on this new adventure!

Latest Family Additions
Grantsville, UT - Michael Beach
6 September 2018

Celeste and Dallin Blackburn become the newest members of our growing family. The twins were born on September 6, 2018 to parents Ryan and Ashley Blackburn. They join older siblings Enna and Aijah. According to Ashley, the older girls have taken well to the new housemates.

Both grandmothers took turns in staying with the Blackburn family to help manage settling into having four children to manage. As the grandmother visits were wrapping up Ashley shared, “We are doing well. The girls love to hold and feed their siblings. I'm still getting used to the late night feedings again, but it hasn't been too bad thanks to having moms in town. It will be interesting to see how the dynamic changes when my mom leaves.”

Kanniesha Beach now has her degree.
Logan, UT - Jacob Beach
May 5, 2018

Utah state university

For anyone one who doesn’t know, Kanneisha and I, Jacob the knot-head of Micheal and Michelle’s family, have now been married for almost 2 years. She is a wonderful young lady who has stolen my heart, and has earned her bachelors degree in Family Consumer Human Development. Many in the area call this "the mommy degree," but don’t let Kanneisha know I told you that. She hates when people call it that. But this degree is geared towards the human services field of work from social work, to counseling, to employment counseling. For the last eight months she has been working as a direct service provider helping in a development group home.

Kanneisha was all smiles as she crossed that stage. Having served a mission in Louisiana delaying her 18 months, she was joyfully done with her right year long academic career.

Granted, she decided to switch to her major halfway through, which added some time to that career. None the less, she came off that stage glowing with excitement and confidence to move forwards into the work force, and share her compassion and love to the people she will inevitably bless through her career.

Dr. Vangee Nez defends her dissertation at UNM
Doctor Nez
Albuquerque, NM - Michael Beach
May 12, 2018

Congratulations are in order to our sister, Evangeline Nez. She successfully defended her dissertation on April 30, then graduated from the University of New Mexico, receiving her Ph.D. on May 12. The area of study for Vangee’s degree was in Native American languages.

On Facebook, the newly minted doctor had this to say:

“Yes, I achieved my dream--I earned my PhD. It was a personal endeavor and a change of career in my early 40s. It's been awesome, yet, at the same time it was a challenging experience. I did it and I'm proud. Proud that I did it and also to say that it can be done. Don't let anyone stop you or tell you can't do it. We all have a choice...to be the best we can. We don't have to accept what is at hand, we can observe it and decide what you can change. The world is at our hands. We can give back in many ways too. Okie dokie smokie---(my dad used to say)! Everyday is a special day and I'm thankful for it. May your path be blessed.”

Hoo Yah Vangee! We are proud of you!

Aiden Amrine Baptism
McDonough, GA - Michael Beach
April 28, 2018

Family gathered to support Aiden Amrine, and to witness this important event. The ordinances of baptism and confirmation mark Aiden’s official membership in the Stockbridge Georgia Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. More specifically these ordinances represent Aiden entering into a covenant with Heavenly Father that has eternal impact. The ordinances were performed by Aiden’s father, David Amrine.

Aiden has been excited for weeks as he prepared for the event, as were his parents David and Kyra Amrine. They were joined at the baptism by both sets of grandparents. Louise and James Amrine made the trek to Georgia from their home in Morgantown, WV, while Michelle and Michael Beach arrived from Stafford, VA. As the first of the Amrine children, Aiden has set a wonderful example for his younger siblings as he took this first steps along the covenant path.

The rest of the day was filled with fun enjoying the perfect weather with outdoor activities. T-ball, water gun fights and evening fireworks rounded out the day.
